Emma van den Elshout (zij/haar) en Just van Bommel (hij/zij/hen) zijn theatermakers en performers. In 2022 studeerden zij af aan de Toneelacademie Maastricht, respectievelijk in regie en performance. Samen maken ze werk waarin het alledaagse kantelt naar het vreemde, ontregelende of existentiële. Hun eerste gezamenlijke voorstelling, Het ‘Showtje’, werd geselecteerd voor Het Debuut 2022 van VIA RUDOLPHI. Daarna volgden ‘Het Spektakeltje’ en ‘Het Circusje’. In hun werk zoeken Emma en Just naar een speelse theatertaal waarin lichtheid en ernst elkaar versterken en ruimte ontstaat voor verwondering, ongemak en een nieuwe blik op het gewone.

‘TRANS-’ is een theatrale DJ-set over hoe iedereen altijd in transitie is. In 30 minuten bouwen Just van Bommel en Emma van den Elshout een inhoudelijk dansfeestje, met live gemixte muziek, scherpe teksten en droge humor. De voorstelling verandert voortdurend mee met de dag, de nacht en het publiek.

Met songs over mannen die op feestjes tegen de muur staan, hyperpop over genderdiscussies tijdens familiebijeenkomsten en een extreem auto-tune nummer over waarom een rok eigenlijk ook een broek is, vieren ze verandering en onzekerheid. Alles blijft in het midden: je hoeft niets zeker te weten en tegenspraak mag bestaan. Met samples van onder anderen Paris Hilton, James Baldwin, Judith Butler, Jinx Monsoon, Audre Lorde en Lady Gaga ontstaat een bouncende 30 minuten waarin alles constant in beweging blijft.

Emma van den Elshout (she/her) and Just van Bommel (he/she/they) are theatre makers and performers. They graduated from the Maastricht Academy of Theatre in 2022, specializing in directing and performance, respectively. Together, they create work in which the everyday shifts into the strange, the unsettling, or the existential. Their first collaborative production, ‘Het Showtje’, was selected for VIA RUDOLPHI’s Het Debuut 2022. This was followed by ’Het Spektakeltje’ and ‘Het Circusje’. In their work, Emma and Just seek a playful theatrical language where lightness and seriousness reinforce one another, creating space for wonder, discomfort, and a fresh perspective on the ordinary.

‘TRANS-’ is a theatrical DJ set about how everyone is constantly in a state of transition. In just 30 minutes, Just van Bommel and Emma van den Elshout create a dance party with substance, featuring live-mixed music, sharp lyrics, and deadpan humor. The performance constantly shifts and adapts to the day, the night, and the audience.

Through songs about men standing against the wall at parties, hyperpop tracks addressing gender debates at family gatherings, and an auto-tuned anthem explaining why a skirt is essentially a pair of trousers, they celebrate change and uncertainty. Everything remains open-ended: there is no need for certainty, and contradictions are allowed to coexist. Incorporating samples from figures such as Paris Hilton, James Baldwin, Judith Butler, Jinx Monsoon, Audre Lorde, and Lady Gaga, the show delivers a high-energy 30 minutes where everything stays constantly in motion.
